Where to check warnings and announcements

This site does not display live warnings. Before travelling or making work plans, check the Hong Kong Observatory’s current warnings and issue time, then follow your employer, school and transport operator’s latest notices.

Before going to work

  1. Check the warning type, issue time and latest update.
  2. Read your employer’s arrangements for reporting, leaving work, resuming duty or working remotely. Contact your supervisor if unclear.
  3. Check MTR, bus and other transport notices, allowing time for diversions or service changes.
  4. If the route or workplace is unsafe, follow your employer’s arrangements and the Labour Department guidance.

Arrangements differ by role and service needs. This guide does not replace an employer’s instructions or legal advice.

Frequently asked questions

Does this page show the current No. 8 signal or rainstorm warning?

No. Check the Observatory website or MyObservatory directly. This page provides source links and a preparation checklist.

Does a No. 8 signal mean everyone must stay off work?

Work arrangements depend on the employer’s prior arrangements, the role and Labour Department guidance. There is no single arrangement for every occupation.

Which source should parents use for school suspension?

Follow the latest notices from the Education Bureau, the school and school-bus provider. Check again before travelling.

When should I recheck transport?

Check operator notices before leaving and whenever warnings change. Services may be adjusted according to weather and road conditions.
